Tasburgh outside of Bath

That was an interesting show. I was at the Tasburg in 1991 in November and remember it as lovely and inviting. The newest owner seems to have all the right instincts. I find this show "Hotel Inspector" in general to be very interesting. I am appalled sometimes what people are so rudely resistant to the changes she suggests. Didn't they invite her there? I once stayed in a B&B in Kings Cross and after one night checked out and went to the closest chain hotel. They had advertised "free computer" but it didn't work and had a layer of dust 3 inches on the monitor. This show is a wake up call for the shoddy operators. As an American I find the prices way steep for what they offer at times but for the most part, they are a ok if you are in a charming place with ambience. As for the breakfast part, breakfast is the cheapest meal to make in the states so I don't understand why they hike up the price because breakfast is included. I feel sorry for those folks on the "cheap" coach excursions. Once they see one of these shows it will make them feel bad.

I went to the website for this hotel, and the Tasburgh has 5 stars! Sue is the only owner/host who did everything Ruth told her except scrapping the teddy bears. The rooms looked better than ever. No telling what some of the other hotels might have done if only they weren't run by stupid, stubborn, old men.

Azure, agree. The cpl in Weston S Mare made me cringe as did the Blackpool people. She's a bit of a cow BUT listen and learn, they did in Bath!

I was in Weston over the summer and I saw that B& B and it's in a bit of a run down seaside area. There is a really nice and very high end area few miles north.

Having seen all the series aired so far (at least two times each) I found that Tasburgh is the one place I would be prepared to stay. What the series did for me was to remind me why I never enjoy staying at privately owned B & B's or Guesthouses or Hotel. They all reflect the personality and foibles of the owners. I prefer the impartiallity of chain Hotels where you know what to expect generally before you check in. I've just watched Blossoms again and couldn't help thinking about The Bates Motel. But what a great series and so entertaining due to Ruth's personality.

I think the resistance on the part of the owners is put in for dramatic effect, giving it a little suspense and interest. I suspect they exaggerate it at times--maybe they even create it. It is a television program, after all, and not "real life."
I like the show, however. Ruth seems to take just the right tone: assertive yet understanding and not unpleasant.

Maybe someone with more British vocabulary experience can answer this one for me: When Ruth comes back to the Tasburgh after 18 month, she's rather cleverly worn a teddy bear broach. Of course Sue notices it immediately and laughs, but she says to Ruth (and I'm VERY much paraphrasing) "Oh, ya got a bit of jangly tangly there" and Ruth says "Yeah, some bingly wingly, isn't it?"
Now I've totally gotten the words wrong here, but the point I'm making is that they were UTTERLY foreign to me, as an American. Anyone hear exactly what was said, and can "translate it" for me?
(I wish I was told when I signed up for this cable system that the DVR recording device was extra - some $14/month extra! I was unable to record this, as I wished to.)

I will watch it on close caption next time but i think she said Blingy like in bling bling wearing sparkle bits. At least thats how I heard it. I was in the UK over the summer and she has a very posh accent compared to some I heard.
