[Un]Official Questions for BBC America Admin and Staff

I know - either overly simple, or overly stupid of me - but figured why not give it a shot?
I could write a 100 pages - but for now will pass the gauntlet to others -
Though I would like to know: (for starters)
1.) Why your website does not function properly? (wrong registration date, no email notifications of new posts etc.)
2.) Why you do not have HD in all the markets you'd "signed" and promoted over 6 MONTHS ago now?
3.) Why you don't air programs that have already aired in the UK (G&S Christmas Special comes to mind)
4.) Why do you insist on running repeats of reality shows that no one ever watches?
5.) Who really owns/runs BBCA?
6.) There's talk of BBC opening up iPlayer to those outside the UK - Does BBCA have any plans for this?
That's it for me - for now!
Next!

1. When you have an occasional decent program on (e.g. Doctor Who), why don't you promote it outside your own station?
2. Why can't you show programs at their actual length instead of trimming them to fit an hour? We're big people. We can tell time, so if program A begins at 8:00PM and the next one begins at 9:15PM, we can handle that. We really can.
3. Why should I buy DVDs from you when almost anyone else sells them cheaper, and you haven't shown even 50% of those programs anyway?
4. Are you really drawing in scads of younger viewers after having alienated the old ones?
5. When are you going to stop your false advertising?("Bloody brilliant television"--not)

Hehe, are you aware that the user names for this antiquated excuse for a forum aren't even cap sensitive !!? I suspect the same is true for passwords.

Was just waiting for you to chime in NF I tried to keep it civil - in hopes they'd take us peasants seriously for once.... and am gonna try to keep commentary to a minimum - They've been fielding "song requests" in "Skins" - so - who knows? Can't hurt to try eh? I'm feeling lucky

Killer-B and pdxtran,
Them's "bloody brilliant" questions! And I echo them.
Sadly, bbca is run by a dolt. Can't believe he's happy with 100 k viewers a day when it could be more with better programming & marketing.

Seriously, my tv viewing time is going down hourly & I'm considering dropping cable & going the library/Netflicks/YT etc. route. Sick of inane commercials, sick of editing for time/content & this self-employed person is getting slammed by the sickly economy.
I'd stay here on the boards for the silly/serious discussions ( the boat with beer & vaseline handmaidens is cracking me up!). And yeah, sometimes ya just gotta do a Lear & rant unto heaven just to see if it sticks.
I occasionally do some lightly witchy rituals condemning garth to a Dante-like Inferno of his own endless repeats of repeats. And now I'm off to a big glass o'wine & a viewing of The Wedding of Sarah Jane, having failed to win at a pumpkin carving contest.

Killer-B,
You flatter me sir,,,
Considering that as an undergrad, I once hid under a blanket under a table because I couldn't write a bloody 5 page paper on Herman Hesse, I've come a long way.
I could write your epitaph, but I hope not for a long, long time.

Greenrose, before he's condemned to the inferno may I suggest placing him in stocks outside BBC head office and pelting his kisser with rotten fruit and excrement for a few months ? Great post, don't ever leave.

In response to the viewers who have posted in this thread - we are sorry to hear that you have been unsatisfied with the channel of late. Feedback from loyal viewers is always appreciated and passed on to the appropriate departments.
Please know that we regularly include a wide selection of popular BBC America shows in our schedule, for our audience to enjoy, as well as for viewers who may be new to the channel. We understand that for loyal viewers, some programming may become repetitive and we are working hard internally to find a balance that works well for all.
We hope that you will continue to enjoy the programming on offer and encourage you to continue to provide us with feedback and requests.
Cheers,
BBCA Admin

Admin,
It's nice of you to notice our rants, however you've got to do a better job at programming. If all you want to be is a pale shadow of other reality dominated channels -A&E, FOX, Spike- know that bbca won't last because you will have lost the viewers who most want to watch "bloody brilliant British TV"

PS:
"We hope that you will continue to enjoy the programming on offer and encourage you to continue to provide us with feedback and requests."
Say it like you mean it ! I, as well as numerous others here on the boards, have emailed & posted about what we'd like to watch. We are usually ignored.
How about a special "email your request to Garth Ancier day" with replies from the man the following week?

Apparently that "balance" means 99% reality programming and no comedies or dramas. Pitiful.

Well, wow! Never thought I'd see the day...!
And never thought I'd "say this".... but "Admin" I appreciate your responding to my post -
It would be nice to get some answers to the Q's above though...
I know beggars can't be choosy - but as longtime loyal viewers, could you at least try to address some of our Questions?
The "Ask Garth" bit (if even censored) is a brilliant idea... It would show that BBCA cares about its viewers....

You're talking to a robot that isn't programmed to answer questions. It's a one way street........pathetic........actually, bloody insulting. Like they give a toss what we think, face facts, we are the very audience they are trying to get rid of. See any change in the programming? NO.

Yes, thanks for responding, admin. However I wonder how much notice TPTB will take of our complaints and concerns. I am assuming (tho I may be wrong) that you are just here to monitor this discussion board and don't have any real influence other than to pass on information and appease the (dwindling) masses.
Just out of interest, are you one person or several, and do you yourself/selves watch BBCA?

I don't think BBCAadmin is around to answer our questions. Their main purpose seems to be monitoring these forums. It seems like someone from BBCA is more likely to respond to comments/questions, at least about programming, on the BBCA facebook page.
I don't have a facebook account, so I don't post, but I do find comments/questions there to be quite entertaining. For some reason, many posters there don't seem to have a clue that this website exists. They are also never referred to this website for questions about the schedule. I have seen the facebook site advertised recently, but nothing for this website. There are links to the facebook page here, but none for this website there. HMMMM
I think there are more dissenters here, so it is a better fit for me. LOL

TPTB ?? Huh?
The only reason I even gave this a go - was that BBCA IS answering "music Q's" in the "Skins" forum.... so SOMEONE is doing something more than just modding (or so it seems? LOL)-
Have another site question BBCA ADMIN - How come the "Remember Me" button doesn't work any more??
Cheers!

The "Remember Me" button has never worked properly and has been discussed here many times, I've always been randomly kicked out on several boxes and 4 different browsers even if I don't delete BBCA cookies. On a normal forum admins or mods would have attempted to correct the problem and kept users appraised of the situation. In keeping with all things BBCA it's just a crap dated useless forum.
Good stuff on PBS and IFC tonight

The season 2 Ramsay program is the US version of Kitchen Nightmares. The 5th season is the UK version. There will be a BBCA reveals about designer dogs. I think it is basically about all the problems with certain breeds popular in the UK like Cavalier King Charles.
I just re-checked their press page and the info about the designer dogs program is no longer on there. Maybe it was decided it didn't appeal to the usual Reveals followers. Maybe if they put more emphasis on inbreeding...

The sad thing is that an American whose only knowledge of UK TV is what is shown on BBC America probably thinks people in the UK watch reality shows 99.99% of the time!
What a shame that BBCA has no plan to air a proper balance of reality, comedy and drama. My personal UK TV schedule for the next 7 days is more balanced than anything you'll ever see on BBCA:
X Factor Merlin 2-7 Trinity 1-8 Spooks 8-2 Russell Howard's Good News 1-3 Collision Sarah Jane Adventures 3-9 & 3-10
I'm so thankful for generous UK residents and high-speed internet, which has allowed me to create my own virtual UK TV channel right on my computer!

Yup - BBCA needs to get with the times!

Russell Howard's sense of humor reminds me of The Inbetweeners -- sometimes crude, but with an underlying good nature about it. So far, I've been laughing out loud for most of the 28-29 minutes of each show.
According to DigitalSpy, the 10/22 premiere on BBC 3 had 371,000 viewers, and episode 3 (from 11/5) had 753,000 viewers -- more than double the number of viewers! Hopefully the viewers keep tuning in and we get another series (series 1 is 8 episodes).

> X Factor > Merlin 2-7 > Trinity 1-8 > Spooks 8-2 > Russell Howard's Good News 1-3 > Collision > Sarah Jane Adventures 3-9 & 3-10
Add to that The thick of it (very clever political comedy), Benidorm (only ITV comedy worth watching) and new tricks (bit of a guilty pleasure that one) and you've got a good mix!

Pilot error! Eject Eject Eject!!
Upon further review... I guess I've been using the "Channel Finder" Search box! (Now, WHY that is in the FORUM section is beyond logic!) but did find the "other" SMALLER search box on the main page.... and THAT works perfectly (of course!) -- Mystery solved! and, oh ya, "never mind" LOL - Thanks guys... The December premieres are supposed to also include:
3 BBCA Reveals: There is the one about the dogs, yet another one about anorexics, and one about binge drinking (not for New Years Day--that will be usual Ab Fab marathon).
For New Years Eve, BBCA plans to show a Graham Norton Show New Year's Eve Special. Could it be that we will actually get this the same night as the UK, or is it from a previous year? Also on the upside we are supposed to finally get the Top Gear Polar special. And along with the Water of Mars, the press release says, "The remaining episodes, starring Tennant, will air over the holiday season as a two-part special. Airdates will be announced in early December."
No sign of the Gavin & Stacey Christmas special. It is possible that not everything was mentioned in this press release and that someone at BBCA programming actually has more sense than we've given them credit for, but they are probably holding out until Christmas 2010 when they can show it before the third season.

They have never shown last years G&S Christmas Special (which was one of the top 3 episodes IMHO) so doubt we'll get it here (why would they?) -- and people are gonna be left guessing about some things between S2 and S3.... This was a great show - and glad they agreed to do a 3rd season.... Beyond me why the actors/writers (Ruth and ??) don't wish to run this one for longer? Everyone keeps saying that's the BBC way - but seems to me it's the actors that are bailing (Many from Coupling wanted out... Original Skins cast has moved on... RTD/DT and even CE bailed early - and now G&S cast/writers didn't really want anything past 2 seasons...) I'm sure there's more to it than what we see.... but seems to me, it's the actors, not the BBC wanting out...
