At pokeygirl's suggestion, a catchphrase:

Robin-Where would be the fun in that?

I can't think of a real catchphrase for my Guy, most of his classic stuff is facial expression. He owns the "snerk," a perfect blend of sneer and smirk. No one does that like Guy. Although his phrase in S3 seems to be a constant string of "Get off me!" to various and sundry guards and soldiers.

Anyone else?

There is, of course, Allan's "Not bein' funny..." and the Sheriff's "A clue? No!"

Allan's "I'm not bein' funny, but....." was always my favorite!

Marian's catch-phrase half the time seemed to be: "I can't....my father..."

Also, a phrase used by many (Marian, the Sheriff): "Grow up."

"Get off me!" Yep, Guy does say that a lot, especially toward the end of S3. Guess he's had enough of being pushed around!

Little John's "Him, I liked" and "We go to Nottingham!" come to mind.

this isn't really a catchphrase but i wanted to put it out there, Saff (my nick name for Saffiya aka Djaq ) lol sorry for the babbling...anyway, Saff says somewhere in season 2 "Much, do not read peoples private letters!" i find that ironic because she then read the letter herself!

"Everything is a choice.....everything we do"

And, while not really a catchphrase, I liked: "Every man has a purpose which he sets up in his life....let yours be the doing of all good things" (papaphrasing here).

And, finally, my least favorite, and most overused....."WE ARE ROBIN HOOD !

My number 1 thing I like about this season is no more WE ARE ROBIN HOOD! For some reason, that drove me nuts.

"Are you with me?" seems to have replaced it.

"Where's Kate?" Usually heard spoken, in a worried tone, from Much. Then someone else replying "she can look after herself."

As far as getting rid of virtually anything to do with Kate, I think we can go with just clever. Really clever can be held in reserve for people who may at some point represent some sort of challenge.

Hi SoCal,

I believe Marian was THE first to utter that great line, (S1 Episode1: "Will You Tolerate This?"). She's come to visit Robin in the Dungeon and tries to get the gist of just what he's thinking and trying to do. (other than just throw his life away or get himself killed to make a point).

Honestly, I think it just might THE catch phrase of the entire series? (thoughts folks?)

Pokeygirl

Is snerk a real word? If it isn't, it should be! Sneer and smirk combined--Guy elevated it to an art form! He can speak volumes with his facial expressions and his eyes.

I don't believe it is a real word, just something someone brilliant on livejournal (I think, that's where I first saw it.)came up with to best describe the facial expression Guy has indeed elevated to an art form.

I love these made up words, as well as words coined by accident.

My husband's uncle was King of the malaprops....always not quite getting the word right. One of my favorites, and one now in general use by my family is "grand jose" which came about when he tried to describe something as "grandiose". We applauded him for trying to use big words, but the results were often hilarious.

People give us the strangest looks if we use this word, but I never use it without thinking fondly of him.

Another classic expression used by the comedian Norm Crosby, I think........"It was an albacore around his neck" (pwew!!!).

The English langauge proivides a wordsmith like myself with endless amusement. We could start a whole other thread on peculiar and humorous English words and phrases.

I love the English language, don't you? "Snerk" should be in the next edition of the dictionary.

My mom and I used to play Scrabble. She was a voracious reader and had a huge store of odd words. She'd put a word on the board, and I'd say, "Challenge! That's not a word!" She'd reply "Look it up", and when I did, sure enough, it would be some obscure word I'd never heard of.

My DH comes up with funny words sometimes, too. I'm not always sure if they're real or he makes them up, but they've become part of the vocabulary in our house. :)

My ex is so bad that noone will play word games (or things like Trivial Pursuit) with him anymore - it only takes one try and usually the other players will become disgusted part way through the game and quit. He has this ENORMOUS vocabulary including words that just make you stare at him and go, "Why? Why would anyone know that?"

If you go back to S1 Ep1, ("Will You Tolerate This?"), it is Marian who FIRST uses these two RH catch phrases:

she says them to Robin as she visits him in the jail of Nottingham Castle, before she tells him that she has bribed the guards to look the other way as he escapes.

"OH grow up!, everything we do is a choice, everything!"

If I remember correctly remember, she says it out of exasperation to his remark that the Sheriff gave him no choice as to the actions that Robin had to take: (the actions that ended up landing him in the "cooler"). (she's pretty PO'd at him at that point, but showing him she's still in love with him even after all he's done, or more to the point what he hasn't done, (well, at least not yet anyway?).

I think that was in Ep. 2? Which reminds me....so, if Robin was a noble, wouldn't he warrant beheading instead of hanging before he escaped for the first time and was officially labeled an outlaw, losing land and title? True, I don't know that much about 12th century England...

You know Jules,

I think you're right, S1 Ep2, "Sheriff Got Your Tongue?" that's when he ended up in the castle 'kilnker".

You may also be correct in regards to the beheading aspect as well. Ordinary hanging was more than likely suitable for the peasants, although depending upon the gravity of the offense, sometimes the noble would be chosen to stand as an example and suffer a particularly gruesome demise. But, at that point, Robin had not become the legend yet, just a local boy who had defied the authority of The Sheriff and the law, and so might have been shown mercy shown by a quick beheading.

Actually, the RH reasearch site say that Robin wasn't a noble, that he was more just a gentleman farmer. However, I remember reading someone's post saying that titles were purchased as a way to finance the Crusades - and the poster suggested maybe Robin's father bought the "Lord of Locksley" title to help KR raise money.

It is when the night watchman infiltrates the camp. It looks like the make-up guy might have been going for Celtic warrior but ended with bad klingon. He is on the steps and in a few of the scenes with the Sheriff in the forest.

I watched all of the original series, and all the Star Trek movies, including the one that came out this past year, but I saw only occasional episodes from all the spin-off shows. Oh, and enjoyed a few Star Trek novels as well.

Talk about campy---the sets, costumes, and special effects of the original show were so bad! :) But many of the stories were actually quite good, and even touched on subjects a little ahead of their time.

Besides the Klingons, I loved the tribbles! (but I'm getting off the subject now, this is Robin Hood, after all---LOL!)

Gotta add "Today is a good day to die." (although i'd probably have to argue the point!)

But one of my personal favorites is "Is that a euphemism?"

And it's made funnier because dictionary.com says the word originated in 1400's if I remember right!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the word "euphemism" didn't exist in medieval English. Then again if the characters spoke actual medieval English we'd need subtitles! LOL!

I got to use my favorite line (well favorite s3 line) at work today! I got to say to my boss, "nasty piece of work you are!'. Luckily for me, i've been working for him for about 12 yrs so he just looks at me oddly when I come out with these expressions!
