Okay, get your rotten tomatoes ready . . .
Are there any guys out there who are still really missing David Tennant, or is that a strictly female phenomon?

yes, very much but I just dont feel like going into long discussion about it since he's moved on and not coming back so I'll just have to suck it up with the reality that DT is gone from whoniverse.

Just to clarify, are you a "guy", i.e., a male?

I'm not a guy, but I miss him. I'd rather not dwell on it though, especially after a decent finish to Matt's first year.

My bad . . . . Thanks for the replies, but I was trying to get some males that still miss David Tennant to respond. I KNOW that there are females that still miss David Tennant, but I forgot that in some places "guys" is gender-neutral, rather than a word to refer to males.

Of course you can.
Once again, though, my bad . . . I should have known that putting the words "David Tennant" would attract the wrong gender for my purposes, so I just changed the title of the opening thread to see if that will help!

Yea, I'm really not into idol worship. David Tennant is a great actor but I'm sure he'd just roll his eyes at some of the " Bring him back to replace MS" stuff that goes on here. He's a great memory for the program and is remembered for his talent in other movies as well. But, as much as he claimed to love Doctor Who, I think he'd be enjoying watching this and other seasons just as much as he enjoyed playing in them. If he were to visit these threads, I'm sure he would be flattered by the fact he has a huge fan base, but the fanatical reactions of some is probably a great reason he allows his "people" to handle fan mail and other potential contact issues. Remember, he is a fellow human being, not just a great actor. I would just rather enjoy the program.

You know, Id never really thought about it, but reading this thread made me realise that I DO miss David Tennant but, surprsingly, not as the Doctor!
I'm a huge admirer of Matt overall, and a combination of the greatly improved writing in Season 5 and his amazing performance means that by about halfway through the series I was comitted to him as THE Doctor, and really happy he had the role. But I do miss DT. He's just never on TV anymore, and when he was the Doctor he'd pop up all over the place! I think he's a phenomenal actor, on screen and stage (I was one of the incredibly lucky few who got a ticket to see his Hamlet in the first week of the run, before he hurt his back and had to quit in favour of his understudy, so I actually DID get to see him as Hamlet!) and he's not been in anything on TV at all since he finished as the Doctor. So in summary, I don't want him back as the Doctor, but I do really want him back on my TV screen soon, because I know that whatever he's in he'll make brilliant!

Not a guy, but i had to reply. I don't miss David at all, even though i enjoyed his stint as Doctor very much and had no complaints while he was playing the role, it's just that, he's moved on and it was his choice to do so, although i've caught the odd glimpse of him as The Doctor since and i remember how good he was at the time, but not wanting to muddy those waters i've made it a point of NOT rewatching past episodes while watching series 5.
Incidentally that thing about not seeing DT on television anymore is an interesting one seeing as there was a period, earlier this year when he was never off the box which i know didn't go down very well at all.
Anyway it would be good to see him again, not necessarily soon, and definately not as the good doctor, that's the job of Matt Smith.

I'm a guy, and I'm completely on board with Matt. I sometimes miss certain things other actors brought to the part, but that's usually in the course of re-watching older shows. So the short answer is no, I don't miss DT as the Doctor more than anyone else.

I miss some aspects of D10's personality and 'style'. I do realise that some of D10 was about style over substance but that is to do with the story and script, mostly. I don't miss David Tennant in the sense that I wish the actor had stayed on, but I do miss the comfort of familiarity that he gave. It's ok, I'm getting along with Matt and my admiration and appreciation has increased greatly and I'm looking forward to the next series. Do I miss DT? It's ok, I bought myself a new pair of shoes and I'm over him.
[Accidentally replied to Doctor Buck instead of the OP. I get so confused when I think about David]

I'm a guy and the simple answer to the question is ... no, not at all.
DT was a great Doctor but he is now old news, lumped together with CE,SM,CB,PD,TB,JP,PT and WH ... (note, I don't count McGann, don't care what I'm told is supposed to be canon)
MS is doing a terrific job of being the Doc now, the stories are fun and nonsensical (as always) and I'm loving the show .... nothing to miss about DT, really.
... all IMHO of course.

Thinking back, I didn't miss Tom Baker either... his run seemed to have ended properly and I like Davison. I didn't like Colin as much and the show got harder to find and I stopped watching. There was no internet back then for me to go on and vent about it, and I doubt I would've been so inclined.
Point being, David's run was concluded when he felt it should be, and in the way he wanted it concluded. It's Who History now!

I first saw DT as a policeman in Viva Blackpool several years ago. He was mis-cast and I thought quite "girly". I always think that actors, no matter what or who they play, eventualy revert to playing themselves. Never have been a DT fan. Give me a gruff, grumpy, husky, tough real man as a hero any day - like say a John Wayne type. DT is too sensitive for my taste - would you call him metrosexual?

Must be all that soccer playing. If I may put in my .02 centimes... This is a new Doctor and a new team and even though it's reality based on their side of the camera they have to write for us. I don't think I would have liked DT saying some of the lines or being involved in the situations they had D11 in earlier in the season. I much preferred DT's delivery, his voice being both expressive and easy to understand. D11's voice is, I don't know, kind of "posh" and, to me at least, rather off-putting in some instances. He mumbles sometimes, but then when he enunciates, it sounds as if we're having tea at the castle with Lord and Lady LaDeDa. IMHO, of course.

DT is Scottish, MS is English (Not sure which branch. No insult intended). There are bound to be some dialectic differences in some of the words that they pronounce or enunciate. Some things, in that regard, just can't be helped. I love different accents, dialects and languages. They fascinate me extremely.

Yes, I know DT is Scots and has a lovely lilting accent but was asked to provide an "estuary English" accent, as I've been told. MS is from the England part of Britain and I know that almost everywhere in the British Isles you'll find an accent that's a bit different from the next. "Well, everyplace has a North!" (loved that line from D9!). At least they didn't ask him to emulate some of what I've heard from the companions, mostly Rose and Martha, not so much Donna, which is the one where they take th's and turn them into v's. Don't know what that's called but I call it lazy.

Yes, we have laziness of the tongue here as well. And different accents depending where one is from. Pretty fascinating though isn't it.

Well, as you might expect, here in the US our tongues wag too much and this huge country of ours contains many accents and dialects. It's quite a hoot when students from all over the country, not to mention the world, congregate in one place - the differences are wonderful!

The Doctor actor has such a big impact on the show that for a while it's hard to tell whether it's the actor or the writing, until they reach equilibrium and everybody knows the Doctor's mannerisms enough to write especially for him. However they definitely had D11 do some things they wouldn't have had D10 do, and whether or not you like those things it's definitely smart to do that to differentiate him from the last guy so that there's more "contrast" than "compare".
I'm still working on my Matt impression; the kids can demand me to switch Doctor voices on a dime. Both of them have some fun cadences to imitate.

JOHNNY B. OODE!!! That's a winner right there.
Way back upon the Ood-Sphere in the snowy peaks There live an Ood whose eyes light up whenever he speaks He lived within an Ood-cave made of earth and stone And practiced singing Ood songs when they left him alone He never ever learned to serve the humans too well But he could sing his Ood song just like-a ringin' a bell
etc...

Looking ood so far DoctorBuck. I find the initial inspiration gets the first verse (or chapter) but it can be difficult after that.
May I request: In the style of Tom Baker - a rap song about jelly babies?

It's ok, I've done it myself. (Music video directions included)
(*Opening shot, Tom Baker holding bag in palm of hand at waist height*)
Here you go! (*offers bag in outstretched hand*) - But not the red one! Yo! - Don't take the red one!
(*takes bag back, reaches fingers into bag, leaves them there*)
I'm chewin' with my babies most every night. They taste so good and fruity got me feelin' alright.
(*takes a red jelly baby out of the bag, shows it to the audience*)
Try some! - Go get some fruity. Buy some! - So good and juicy.
(*rubs red jelly baby across lips*)
Put a tingle on my tongue, make my eyes light up bright. Hit me fast with juicy flavour, just like dynamite.
(*waves bag around*)
I got green ones! - they fresh and limey. I got black ones! - so timey-wimey.
(*puts red jelly baby in mouth*)
MMMM! - my jelly baby. OOH! - you drive me crazy.
(*voice lowers, becomes sensually self-indulgent*)
You gettin' soft and warm, give me such a good buzz. All I ever needin' is your jelly baby love.

Dude. Yes I miss him. Matt's' growing but still isn't as good as C.E..,(IMHO),. Transition years are always hard. Endings are worse. For me D.T.'s end was W.O.M.. Just didn't like the end of time. It just never seemed to end! Did like Gramps though.

Guy here...I miss almost all the Doctors...they all brought something to the character...except Sylvester McCoy...worst doc ever. Matt seems to be shaping up as one of the greats though. David was fun...but I think TimeCrash did sum him up too well....a tall idiot that talked about every little thing that was in front of him. And yet...the episode Midnight I think...when he is on that tour tank with all those people...I just loved seeing him talk to the people...it was a very human moment.

Actually, I really don't miss him. (and I am female)I was thinking about this as I was reading all of the posts. I adored him when he was the Doctor, but I have moved on. Kind of like (or maybe very much like) one moves on from a past lover. It was wonderful at the time, and there is still affection, and there are happy memories, but he is no longer the one. Matt is the Doctor now and no one else compares. I assume as long as the next Doctor is any good at all, the same thing will occur then. (But I hope that doesn't happen anytime soon.)

Well, I just have to say it, I miss DT! We had our visiting son watch the 2 parter in preparation to beginning the Tardis bedroom for W-17!!! Tomorrow the painting begins!!! (She likes 10's Tardis better) Some of the Wholigans are coming over to help get the walls and ceilings done, then the artwork begins
Season 5 was fun, but we just watched Silence in the Library & Forest of the Dead and it is soooo good! Season 5 was pretty good, and I watched the shows over to catch all the info, but i probably won't watch too many episodes over just for the heck of it.
We are starting over with Season one, though. The emotions DT can convey, it's just phenomanenal!

Nope, we're borrowing season 1 & 2 to start over at the beginning again.

Shame on you Captnhape. Really, most British actors (that includes the feminine) are well trained and have extensive experience on stage. I think our DT was quite expressive and I find that one main difference between D10 and D11. Maybe it's hard for some people to understand but the understated D11 (for the most part) doesn't do it for me. He's a good actor but there's something of the plodding, analytical professor about him that doesn't go over well for me. It's a personal thing. Some people like their Doctors hot, some like them a bit luke warm. Personal preference, of course.

I think D11 is extraordinarily expressive, with an even greater range than D10. But the problem is that the gestures and expressions aren't as "big"; they're more subtle. Part of the issue is just what you're used to. If your eyes/perception are tuned into receive the D10 level, it's hard to see the D11 level. But if they're tuned into receive the D11 level, then the D10 level seems like shouting. It's like you have to adjust your focus to perceive them, and when it's set for one, the other seems out of whack.

Ba-dum-dum! Good one WholiMom!
Sorry MCUSA, but we must be coming from totally different dimensions if you think D11 is expressive. Just IMHO. Maybe I'll see it too someday but there's next season and maybe he'll come out of his shell or the perception filter will drop and it will break over my contrarian soul and I'll shout "Eureka"! (Oh, wait a moment - that's a SyFy show...nevermind!)

I don't think it's that we're from different dimensions. Like I've said several times, I think it's like our eyes adjusting to different levels of light. At night, when we're in a lighted house and go outside, it takes a while for our eyes adjust to the darkness. If we've been outside in the dark for a long time, when we first walk into a brightly lit room, we're practically blinded.
Say that D10 is equivalent to the bright light inside the house, and D11 is equivalent to the more subtle lighting outside the house.
Watching D10 episodes every night is like going outside with a bright Coleman lantern. When you're sitting near it, your eyes don't adjust to the dark.
There's nothing intrinsically wrong with that; after all, this is all just for entertainment and enjoyment, and if you feel that watching David Tennant every night maximizes your entertainment and enjoyment, then of course it makes sense for you to do it.
The only downside is that you'll never see the stars.

We do have good hearted teasing around here.
Captnhape teases us all the time about our slobbering love affair with DT He's heard everything there is to know about our "Darling" Doctor, and all the fantasies we all have had of him & his bare bum that he doesn't care to know!

Well, I don't know about you but I have quite a lovely husband who has a lovely bum of his own so I'm not so much slobbering as appreciative. It's the eyes that do it for me. Big, brown, soulful, expressive...oh, I just finished watching Planet of the Ood. Such a lovely episode. I try to watch a D10 episode right before beddy bye. I sleep with a smile and quite contentedly. Nighty night my dear!

Well, remembering that all we've got here is the words that other people use, "big, brown, soulful, expressive" eyes that "do it" for you in writing sounds more like "slobbering" than "appreciative." (Just poking fun; I certainly spent my share of time slobbering over him, too.)

Uh-oh...the only bum I like to talk about more is my hubby's! My old man has a MUCH sexier body than DT's- he's an athlete so he's not only lean, but very nicely muscled As my kids would warn you- don't get me started on my sexy honey!
The only thing he does not have are those big soulful gorgeous brown eyes that take me away to worlds and times unknown, to the heights and depths of my emotions- during a TV show. My honey does a very good job of that on his own in real life!
I keep threatening I'm going to make him get brown contacts! He has sharp blue, piercing, knowing eyes. A double black belt that has intense and deadly focus in his gaze, but never at me.

I don't think any apologies are owed! The whole point of my brand new "FF" designation is to make it perfectly clear that if people free-associate, free-wheel, engage in flights of fancy or frivolity etc., they don't have to concerned that the wrath of MusicCityUSA will fall upon them.
OTOH, if I label one of my threads "SS", don't do it, or I'll get mad.

I told ya. The only thing I have power to do is post messages, so I'd post a mad one. Then most likely we'd get going around on this ever lovin' merry-go-round again. Since everybody professes not to like that, I'm assuming that will be sufficient deterrent. If not, then I'll yell at people. Simple.

Ummm. lemme check to see where we are . . . MusicCityUSA started this thread (hey, it's me!). She marked it with an FF, so apparently she won't yell at me, so what the heck. If It's a margarita, I'll have one. Ice on the rim, please.

Argh. You can tell I need one! I mean on the rocks, salt on the rim. I prefer the original lime, but I'm willing to give strawberry a try, as long as you don't forget the tequila.

The kids will put up pix on deviant art as they go along. They plan to construct a tardis front around the door on both sides. We were going to paint the console on the far wall, but now they want to make a 3D version, like 3 sides of the console framed out, with the center position having a table shelf for the laptop and a chair... we'll see how that goes! It could be done with a wood frame, then "paper mache over it to make it look like the choral, we'll see if that ever happens, though!
It's always good in your head, but takes longer than you think to do!
We want to print out photos of all the Dr's & frame them on the wall, like a family tree. All kinds of good ideas, and she won't be moving in until after graduation next year, so they have time.

You could get a DT or MS life size cut out But then if it was DT you might never leave the room.

From your typing fingers to the deity's ear!
Really, unless D11 crosses D10's timeline (as has happened before, I believe) we won't be seeing our beloved one again as the Doctor.

We can dream, yes, and I hope you're thinking what I'm thinking...it would be way cool to see the multi-docs converge. I thought we never had enough D9. Would be nice to see him inhabit the role again.

I am female (I think you all know it by now) but I have to share, sorry!
I'm happy that Matt Smith is the Doctor, but I miss DT in other roles. S2-4 is DT eye candy, but I think he really shines in his other performances.
For example, while waiting for work today I watched Act 3 Scene 4 of Hamlet about 4 times. I just can't get past it. GOOD NIGHT MOTHER! I just can't stop. I also love when he talks to the grave keeper--oh and when he is hiding Polonius's body and jumps over the stairway banister. I know Shakespeare has always suppose to have been deep and humorous, but for the first time, I am able to grasp it--without a cheat sheet!
I love DT for making me love the indecisive prince of Denmark.

So after all this, we have exactly one man who has admitted to missing DT. One last shot at trying to find others? YOO HOO? Are you out there?

I'm taking the bottom position here as putting all this in proper order would mean scrolling to the middle. WholiMom - your husband sounds dreamy. Good for you and someday your kids will grow up and leave home and you can have him all to yourself - if you know what I mean. If the point of this thread was to see how many men miss DT, it might have missed something - have we ever determined how many of us are male and how many of us female? But that's not the point, IMHO. I think we're all in various states of like/love/acceptance for D11 and no matter if we miss him or not, D10 will not be coming back (but we can dream, can't we?). Our minds will probably not change that much but we'll still enjoy the series and make our funny, incisive, thoughtful, witty and sometimes downright nasty comments about one or the other. What this whole thread proves to me is that we're a clever bunch of interesting people who can "speak" to each other in a kind, funny and honest way. And isn't that what we're all here for?

Hey admiralu -- are you another "I miss DT" man? I know user names can be misleading, bur the "admiral" in your user name looks promising!
